‘Muddy Buddies’ or ‘Puppy Chow’ – Gluten and Dairy Free

Crispy, chocolatey, peanut buttery, and coated in sugar, this treat is much better than the store bought ones and even better than the recipe on the back of the Chex box (plus, they’re dairy free)! I like to do a bad job stirring the chocolate peanut butter mixture into the cereal so that there is decadent and fudgy clumps. Enjoy!

Serves: About seven cups
Prep Time: 5-10 minutes

Ingredients:

1 cup Dairy free chocolate chips
½ cup Creamy peanut butter (I go a little heavy)
¼ cup Earth Balance
2 teaspoons Vanilla extract
7 cups Corn or rice Chex, or Crispix (basically any crispy cereal)
1 cup Powdered sugar

Directions:

Step 1:    In a small microwave safe bowl, place the chocolate chips, peanut butter, Earth Balance, and vanilla extract.
Step 2:    Microwave for one minute; stir and microwave for about another minute, or until mixture is very smooth and warm (this will help it stir together easier.)
Step 3:    In a large bowl, carefully stir together the crunchy cereal and chocolate mixture together. I like to leave large clumps for super chocolate –y bites.
Step 4:    In a gallon sized freezer bag, place the powdered sugar. Add the cereal concoction, close the bag, and shake it until the cereal is evenly coated.
Step 5:    Spread on a cookie sheet and refrigerate for about an hour or freeze for about fifteen minutes, or until cold. Enjoy! Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for maximum longevity.
